Olivier is a contemporary of those other young jockey stars in France, Soumillon & Pasquier.
Born in Angers on July 21st, 1984, by the age of 10 he was the French Pony Riding Champion.
From there he moved on to pony racing in western France, where like Olivier Peslier, he won 40 races between the age of 12-14.
At 14 he started as an apprentice with Jean Lesbordes, the trainer of Arc winner Urban Sea, Prix de Diane 2nd Mousse Glacée, etc.
On the day of his 16th birthday in 2000, he made his riding debut and won his first race about a month later, scoring a double on the same afternoon. That year he rode a total of 6 winners, for Champion trainer Andre Fabre amongst others.
In 2001, he romped away with the Champion Apprentice title, riding 47 winners from 576 rides (326 different mounts) and total prize money of FF 808,352 to finish 16th in the Jockeys Standings by number of wins.
Soon after in April 2002, he lost his claim and was only deprived of another apprentice's title by the arrival of his 18th birthday and by the eventual Champion only passing his mark towards the very end of the season.
Still, 2002 was a great year which saw him finish 14th in the standings with 51 wins from 658 rides (366 different mounts), total prize money of €1.36m and a total of 4 Group winners.
Invited to ride in Singapore over the winter of 2002/3, he has done fairly well, winning 6 races and ranking 10th on the riders' table.
Olivier returned to France in March 2003 and suffered a light injury on Saturday, March 29th when he fell of his scooter. He was back again very quickly but on the whole the season was bit disappointing with only 24 wins from 430 rides for a 43rd place finish. He returned to Singapore to ride for about 2 months in their 2003/04 season.
