Originally from San Juan, Puerto Rico, he was born on Jan 22nd, 1974, and at 5 ft 6" he tacks at 110 lbs, 50 kgs or 7st 12 lbs.
He moved to the US in 1991 and became champion apprentice in Maryland in 1993. Since then he has gone on to notch up about 650 wins in the U.S. not to mention the numerous victories in other countries.
He has ridden under contract for owners in the Dominican Republic (for Osvaldo Brugal), Puerto Rico, Virgin Islands and even won a stakes race in Saudi Arabia for Prince Abdullahzis Bin Fahad.
in 1994, he was also due to ride in Argentina for the Haras San Jose del Socorro but was prevented from doing so after local jockeys went on strike against visiting jockeys taking their rides.
