Jean-Bernard Eyquem is one of those hard-working jockeys who gets on with things and is successful with it as a result.
Initially he rode both over jumps and on the flat in France, but only because "I did not look after my weight with so much partying! "
Now on a new diet and with less parties to go to, Jean-Bernard has increased vigour and his performance in the saddle has improved.
In early 2003, he got off to a scorching start and in February was even leading Soumillon, Boeuf and Peslier in the jockeys' table !
Jean-Bernard meant business and trainers have been very willing to place their confidence in him.
Very popular in Spain as he is in France, this charming jockey landed the Copa de Oro de San Sebastian on Jafar in 2000, one of his favourite horses.
In September, 2003, he booted home the high-class English challenger, Foreign Affairs, trained by Sir Mark Prescot in Newmarket, to lift the prestigious
Listed Grand Prix du Sud Ouest by a nose at La Teste racecourse.
Expect more to come from this chap with a US style of riding and nearly 500 career winners to his name.
