Matias in San Sebastian in 2002 and with his twin brother, Jose-Luis.

Matias, like his twin brother, Jose-Luis, are probably the best young riders in Europe and by quite a long way. With the declining fortunes of Spanish racing in the last 5 years, they have secured less rides than the 200 that they used to ride in the mid 1990's.

Matias & his brother were almost the last batch of apprentices to have come from the Spanish apprentice academy.

It is difficult to seperate the twins because they are both as good as each other and get on with their business in a very friendly & efficient manner. Matias's favourite jockey was always Richael Hills and he was delighted to have his picture taken with the Hills twins in 1993.
