Born in 1972, Jorge had just 2 rides as an amateur in 1988 and 8 as an apprentice in 1990.
His first winner came aboard La Troya in the Premio Ming at Madrid on 07.04.91
From there, Jorge's rise to the top of his country's statistics table was one of the fastest by an apprentice in any country.
He nearly became Champion Apprentice & Jockey in his first full year! In the next 9 months, he won a further 28 races to finish 2nd, beaten on the last racing day of the year at San Sebastian on 29.12.91.
Jorge rode the first 2 winners on that card to tie the title with Cristobal Medina. However, the veteran Medina secured the title by winning the last race that day.
In 1991, only 19, Jorge secured the Spanish St.Leger on Sibarito for his governor, Manuel Vazquez and retaining owner, Cuadra Machin.
Handicaps were easy to solve that year for punters & fans alike who loved his American style of riding.
He also started a winning combination on Spain's top miler, Sherman (pictured) and with top two year old filly, Karachi.
Jorge's first riding experience abroad was a winning one on Spanish 2,000 Guineas winner, Perfil in early February'92 at Toulouse in France.
The following week, he nearly won the Listed Grand Prix des Alpes Maritimes at Cagnes-sur-Mer on Aqueronte, finishing 2nd to Fortune's Wheel.
These foreign ventures whetted Jorge's appetite and international experience was what he needed and wanted.
In 1992, he became Champion jockey in Spain with an impressive 45 winners and was to finish in the top 5 for the next 5 years.
Admittedly more at home on his local turf & dirt track at Madrid, he also raked up a lot of races on the dirt track at Seville.
On the back of some riding experience with Angel Penna Jnr in the US and with the decline in fortunes of Spanish racing in 1997, Jorge moved to Italy in 1997.
His first season reaped 19 winners and he has climbed his way up the ladder successfully since.
2000 was a very successful year in Italy with a St.Leger win and two Group 3 victories amongst his 56 winners.
In the winter of 2000/01, Jorge secured a great contract to ride in Macau before returning to Milan.
However, he curtailed the Milan return to once again go back to Spain where he won the Copa de Oro de San Sebastian on Persian Ruler. Jorge rode throughout 2002 in Spain and managed to lift the Spanish Derby. However, he would like to ride abroad again and is open to suggestions.
In the spring of 2003, Jorge has been invited back by the Macau Jockey Club to ride on a freelance basis between February and September.
The season there went really well for him and as of Oct 27th, 2003, he was lying 13th in the table with 23 wins from 284 rides.
